Does Your Evaporator Coil Need an Upgrade?
An efficient air conditioner in Mount Pleasant, Texas, is essential for most families, and there are a lot of parts that make it run well. Your evaporator coil is a major part of your air conditioner, which means you need to carefully consider when to upgrade it.
What is an Evaporator Coil?
When your air conditioner or heat pump works efficiently, it absorbs the excess heat from your home. The evaporator coil is the piece that is in charge of absorbing that heat. Your blower fan moves air from your home through the evaporator coil, which works to cool that air and move the warm air to the outdoors. This process is essential to cool your home properly. If you’ve noticed your home isn’t cooling efficiently, the problem could be the evaporator coil.
Evaporator Coil Issues
One of the biggest signs of an issue is a leaky evaporator coil. When your evaporator coil starts to wear down, you may notice a leak coming from your air conditioner or heat pump. This leak is typically caused by a build up inside your air conditioner and means that there is an issue that you shouldn’t ignore. Another problem that can arise from your evaporator coil is the collection of dirt and debris on the coil. Without proper preventive maintenance, the inside of your air conditioner collects dirt, which causes damage to your unit over time.
Upgrade or Replace
If you’ve noticed a leak or a technician tells you there is an issue with your evaporator coil, you need to decide how to handle it. If your unit is over ten years old, then you likely have a type of system that is quickly being considered outdated. Replacing the coil will only prolong the life of your unit, but won’t likely garner you the energy savings you would see with a new system. In this case, you may want to discuss replacing your unit with your contractor. If your system is new, and still operating efficiently, upgrading your coil makes the most sense financially.
